Here are ways in which our members are involved in community service in Barbour County.

Presented awards to deserving high school students.

Supported local FFA program at high school.

Placed over 1500 flags on veteran’s graves in 50 county cemeteries for Memorial Day.       

Supported Salvation Army by ringing bell at front of local grocery store for county needy families.

Our Military Honors Unit was the first to be Certified to conduct and assist in burial of U.S. Army Veterans by Department of the ARMY.

Were pallbearers at Veterans burials?

   Represented the U.S.GOVERNMENT by presenting the U.S.FLAG to next of kin at veterans’ burials.

We maintain a Vietnam Veterans park in Philippi, and 2 war memorials, one to Korean War and one to WW 1.

We conduct an oratorical competition at high school.

We send four outstanding boys to Boy State Camp

We promote Flag Education in local schools

We promote good citizenship by presenting flag citations to schools, businesses, and privates citizens.

We promote patriotic holiday observances through Veterans Day parade, Memorial Day services at Mt Vernon Cemetery, Issuing a flag proclamation for flag week.  Place flags on light poles up and down main street.  Place burial flags on poles for the “Avenue of Flags” at Mt.Vernon Cemetery for Memorial Day.                

We have provided a color guard for a dedication of a local hospital.  

We support the Boy Scouts programs and sponsor Boy Scout Troop #644.

We supported the National Youth Leaders Conference.

We have provided a GUN Safety Course for Scouts and Hunters.

We provided road sign welcoming people to town and stressing driving safely

We provide replacement American Flags for outside display to local hospitals, schools, and fire departments. 

Note:  Maintaining park includes cutting lawns, trimming, removing paper & etc., watering lawns and flower beds, trimming weeds, sweeping parking areas, painting benches and tables.

We held a veterans workshop on veterans benefits and offered medical screening from the VA Hospital.

Donated food and supplies to flood victims in North Carolina.

Our members do volunteer work at local museums and historical places.
